Before you say, “I hate selling,”—
I want you to think of one food that you hate right now.
Can you see it in front of you on a plate? Can you smell it?
Face twisted up yet?
Now say out loud, ” I hate (the food you hate)!”
Do you feel that in your soul?
I bet you make a point of avoiding this food at all costs. If it’s put on a plate in front of you, you push it away.The mere mention of it shuts you down.
It’s not passing your lips, no way, no how.
Now I want you to say, “I hate selling.”
And if you do, or have ever said you do, the same way you feel about that food, is just how you feel about selling your services.
Without even realizing it, that feeling has you avoiding and pushing away any opportunity that puts you in a position to sell.
Is it really that your new offer isn’t quite ready or is it if you put it out there you may actually have to SELL it?
You can survive without eating the food you hate ever again in life. You can avoid it completely without any consequences.
BUT, if you own a business, you cannot avoid selling. Selling is to business like air and water is to your existence. Without it, the business dies.
The good news is, something you used to hate to eat as a kid, you probably eat now and even really like it. The more you tasted it and experimented, the more you began to enjoy it.
Selling is the same way.
You have to try it more often. You may need a new recipe that suits your tastes, but the more you try it and the more you see how nourishing it is to your business and the people you sell to, I guarantee you will learn to love it.
